Ben Davis

Ben currently serves as the lead pastor at ALC.

What do you like to do in your free time?
Golf, running and training for races, study to buy and sell stocks, read novels, watch football

What might people find surprising about you?
I jumped out of an airplane three times (with a parachute) and wish I could get all my kids to go jumping.

What’s the best advice you have ever received?
Your ministry will never be stronger than your marriage.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?
At my high school baccalaureate I was asked to sing a solo. I sang the entire song “Friends Are Friends Forever” a half key flat. I didn’t know how bad I sounded until I noticed everyone complementing my piano accompanist while saying nothing to me. Finally a friend told me that I was a half key flat for the entire song.

If you could be king for the day, what would you change in the world?
I would make everyone go to church that day.

What is one of the things you find most fascinating?
Marriage.

What movie best describes your life?
Star Wars—I could preach from Star Wars.

If you could get coffee with one person, living or dead, who would it be?
This sounds religious, but Jesus. I would ask Him what He thinks about how the modern church turned out in the USA .

I married Holly in 1989. We had three kids—Clayton born 1991, Natalie 1994, and Chandler 1997. Clayton married Katie Wallace in 2014, and three months later Natalie married Jared Pollard.

Holly Davis

Holly currently serves as an associate pastor at ALC.

What do you like to do in your free time?
Pinterest, watch Hallmark Channel and Gilmore Girls, crafts, walk and exercise with my daughter, read

What might people find surprising about you?
I climbed Mt. St. Helens and made it to the top and went over a 13-foot waterfall with my husband and his crazy brother.

What’s the best advice you have ever received?
Marriage is the union of two good forgivers.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?
As an office assistant in the eighth grade, I delivered a dismissal pass in a class in which was the guy I had a crush on. After class, he came up to me and told me I had my sweatshirt on wrong side out! I was mortified, not only because it was him who told me, but because when I went to check out my problem in the bathroom, I could see that it had been so obvious with a big tag sticking out in the back.

If you could be queen for the day, what would you change in the world?
I would require all news on any news channel to only report positive news, nothing negative for the day. This could change so many people’s outlook on life for at least that one day!

What is one of the things you find most fascinating?
Babies, children, and teenagers, oh wait that’s three things!

What movie best describes your life?
Pride and Prejudice—not only is it my favorite love story, but the Lord continually requires me to lay down my pride in order to obey His voice.

If you could get coffee with one person, living or dead, who would it be?
Karen Kingsbury. She’s my favorite Christian novelist, and her books always touch my heart deeply.

Ben and I married in 1989. We have three adult children—Clayton born 1991, Natalie 1994, and Chandler 1997. Clayton married Katie Wallace in 2014, and three months later Natalie married Jared Pollard. We’re waiting on grandchildren to show up!

Exercise, read, watch airplanes from my back deck using my Flightracker app

I can hyperextend my shoulder blades.

Yard by yard, life is hard; inch by inch, it’s a cinch.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?
Splitting my pants from front to back while giving a tour to a group of visitors at the Assembly of God headquarters.

What is one of the things you find most fascinating?
Einstein’s theory of relativity E=mc2. Especially that part about time slowing down as you approach the speed of light. I have pondered this for hours and hours.

If you could get coffee with one person, living or dead, who would it be?
With my wife. I married up.

Married Christa on February 17, 1984
Birth of children: Rebekah 1991, Timothy 1993, Emma 1997

What’s the best advice you have ever received?
True humility brings true freedom.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?
I was working at a radio station reading sports news, and I mispronounced the name of star basketball player Dikembe Mutombo. I received some phone calls with just laughter on the other end.

If you could be queen for the day, what would you change in the world?
I would get all world leaders together and have a “fun” day—games, trust falls, hugs, jokes, dancing… If anyone got offended, they would have to hug it out.

What is one of the things you find most fascinating?
People’s stories. Every person has lived a fascinating life, and I love hearing about how God has led them and transformed them.

What movie best describes your life?
Like Rapunzel in the movie Tangled, I did not realize I was the daughter of the King—royalty—until my Prince, Jesus, saved me from my world of bondage. When I discovered my true identity, it opened up a whole new life to me.

If you could get coffee with one person, living or dead, who would it be?
Other than Jesus and my husband Jon, maybe Apostle John. He outlived the other apostles, so he saw more fulfillment of Scripture, and he was one of Jesus’ favorite. I would have tons of questions for him.

Married Jon on February 17, 1984
Birth of children: Rebekah 1991, Timothy 1993, Emma 1997
Rebekah married Micah Meadows 2015; Tim married Sara Cook 2016.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?
As a youth, I sang a song in front of the entire church congregation and sang it in the wrong key.

If you could be queen for the day, what would you change in the world?
Every one in the world would only be allowed to speak positive words to each other. Words that edify and build up others and don’t tear down.

What is one of the things you find most fascinating?
The pregnancies and births of all three of my children. It was truly a blessing to me.

What movie best describes your life?
Mission Impossible. I believe that all things are possible with God. In my life, the Lord continues to take the impossible and make it possible (Ephesians 3:20-21).

If you could get coffee with one person, living or dead, who would it be? I would have coffee with my Great Great Aunt Ella Kate Ewing. She was a Missouri woman considered the world’s tallest female of her era. She would use her great height to earn a living as a sideshow attraction, popularly known as “The Missouri Giantess” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ella_Ewing).

Married Brandon on June 12, 1999. Birth of children: Norah 2004, Claire 2008, Bennett 2012.

Jared Pollard

Jared serves as a youth and worship pastor at ALC.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I greatly enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife Natalie and dog Nala. I also spend time playing guitar and a variety of other instruments.

What might people find surprising about you?
I absolutely love to cook! I tend to be more of an experimenter than a recipe cooker though!

What’s the best advice you have ever received?
The best advice I have ever received was in regards to my actions. A person’s choices always affect the people around them. You live your life in a completely different way when you are thinking about the impact that you are going to have on other people.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?
The most embarrassing thing I have ever done was on a playground at Dunnegan Park in Bolivar, MO. I was dating my wife Natalie at the time, and she had the bright idea of getting on the teeter totter with me. In the spirit of competition, I bounced her as high as I could, and one concussion and ER trip later, Natalie still chose me, and we are happily married today. Embarrassing story with a happy ending.

If you could be king for the day, what would you change in the world?
If I could be king for the day, I would make sure that every kid grew up with access to some type of musical instrument. Music changes lives and gives an awesome avenue to worship God!

What is one of the things you find most fascinating?
I find cultural music to be one of the most fascinating subjects to study and learn about. Music reveals so much about a culture, including religious and cultural practices. This opens understanding and relations to other people groups!

What movie best describes your life?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy best describes my life, because God has called us to live in community and pursue a life after Him. Just like the fellowship was called to journey together and pursue the goal of eradicating evil from Middle Earth.

If you could get coffee with one person, living or dead, who would it be?
I would love to sit down and talk about the Christian faith with C.S. Lewis over a cup of coffee.

Wife: Natalie, Married December 13, 2014
Dog: Nala
Parents: Walter and Shelley
2 Siblings: Jacob and Jillian
